Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. (CB&I; Netherlands) says it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Lummus Global business from ABB in a deal valued at $950 million. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and approval by CB&I's shareholders and is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Lummus Global provides proprietary process technologies, project management and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) management services to the upstream and downstream oil and gas, petrochemical, and refining industries.

A consortium formed by Techint Uruguay, Techint Argentina and ABB Lummus has won a contract to expand Uruguay's La Teja Refinery on behalf of state oil company Ancap. The estimated US$120mn work program will begin in February.
Expansion will take La Teja's production from 37,000 barrels per day (bpd) via the construction of a new 12,000-bpd regeneration unit, a 6,000-bpd isomerization unit and an 18,000-bpd hydro-treatment plant. The winning group will also increase the refinery's gasoline production level to 50,000 bpd and its cracking unit capacity from 9,000 bpd to 13,000 bpd.
