The new modular platform means that ABB has been able to reduce the number of switchgear production lines from 47 to just nine. And the number of switchgear parts has been cut by almost 95 percent to ensure consistent quality and shorter lead times.
The new UniGear ZS1 switchgear is based on ABB’s market-leading ZS1 family, which was first launched in 1986. ABB assembled a team of specialists from around the world to develop the UniGear ZS1 platform and ensure all relevant, market-specific features were incorporated into the design.

UniGear type ZS1 are primary distribution medium voltage switchgears suitable for indoor installations and offer an unequalled range of units and functions. UniGear are available in the single level, double level and double busbars solutions. The single level solution can be coupled with the UniGear ZVC motor control center panels.
The range of apparatus for the UniGear ZS1 switchboards includes vacuum and gas circuit-breakers and vacuum contactors with fuses. All this apparatus is interchangeable inside the same switchgear unit. This makes it possible to use a single switchboard-user interface, with the same service and maintenance procedure and operations.
UniGear type ZVC motor control is designed to be directly coupled to UniGear Type ZS1, with the possibility of extension on both sides of a switchboard. Each unit is only 325mm wide with a withdrawable single high, floor roll out contactor/fuse assembly truck. The starters are equipped with vacuum interrupters with a rating of up to 7.2kA and 400A and option for up to two fuses in parallel for each phase.
The high busbar short circuit capability of 50kA makes this solution well suited for high power system requirements.
